Tomatillo
Vegetable
Also known as: Tomatillo, Tomate Verde (Physalis philadelphica)

About this crop
A staple of Mexican and Central American cuisine. Encased in a papery husk, it resembles a small green tomato but has a tart, bright, citrusy flavor and is the indispensable foundation of salsa verde. Growability: grows here now in the NYC and RI foodshed (Tier 1 Act Now), a very productive warm-season annual; plants are self-incompatible, so plant at least two for fruit set.
